Flocktails has been consolidated into the Tails Extension as of version 0.3. You can download the latest version of Tails here.
Not to leave Flock out in the cold, I’ve ported my Tails Extension to Flock, which I’m calling Flocktails. Flocktails supports the same microformats (hCard, hCalendar, hReview, xFolk) as the original Tails Extension, but displays them one at a time and from Flock’s topbar (click on the image below to see the the full image):
You install this extension by clicking here:
- Flocktails v0.1.2 (6/17/2006, for Flock 0.7)
- Flocktails v0.1.1 (3/22/2006, for Flock 0.5.13+).

[...] Calvin Yu has ported his Tails extension to work in Flock as a topbar. The extension, called Flocktails, reveals a micformats icon in the bottom right of the status bar to indicate the presence of hCards, hCalendars, hReviews and xFolk entries. This is the extension that I demoed at SXSW last week. [...]

[...] The weekend before last, I took the time and ported my Tails Firefox Extension to Flock, the result of which is Flocktails. The biggest improvement was moving the extension from display microformats on the sidebar to Flock’s topbar, which makes a very significant visual difference: [...]

Doh. Don’t work in Flock beta (0.7). What gives?

I haven’t had a chance to look at the latest release. I’ll make it a point to check it out and see what’s wrong.

Thanks Calvin. I got the same error msg and I really wanted to have this working on Flock.
By the way, is there a way of contributing for the extension? Maybe add support for other microformats…? If I were able to help, I would, just not sure if I have the knowledge.

André - I really don\’t have the time to setup and maintain an official project for Flocktails, but if you want to contribute some code I would be more than happy to incorporate it into the extension. Developing a Flock extension is very much like developing any other Firefox extension. You can check this Flock site to get started (http://www.flock.com/participate). I would recommend checking out the developer wiki.
Extension development is fairly easy, an .xpi is just a zip file with a bunch of XML and Javascript files. The tricky part is trying to figure out what the hell I\’m doing in the code.

[...] Yahoo points to a number of uses but fails to tell us how or i they will use this data. Surely getting additional local and event data in a structured format they can tie into their existing listings would be useful, add value to the consumer, develop more of a community as consumer contribute, and builds this user-generated content cheaply. I love the plugin. Would it be possible to move the icon from the status bar to the address bar? If so, how?

[...] I worked with Daryl today on getting the Flocktails extension into Flock’s extension catalog. I apologize for my team in not getting this in the catalog for launch of Flock Beta 1 with an extension catalog that supports voting and user submissions. We wanted to. This is a great extension and will be more useful as Microformats are adopted — which they will be. I am excited to use an extension that uses the Flock’s topbar. [...]

Calvin,
Ok, I’ll look into it. I’m currently in the middle of exams so free time is scarce. I’ll get in touch if I get the hang of it and write some code for you.
Thanks for all your work!
